Is Marvel Rivals success coming to an end?

Marvel Rivals is NetEase’s new Tactical PVP Shooter where players can play as their favorite Marvel heroes and villains as they go head to head to capture objectives. This game took the world by storm when it launched on December 5th, 2024. Now, 2 months later, it has over 600,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.

However, that is not enough. Thaddeus Slasser, the Creative Director of Marvel Rivals, took to LinkedIn to announce that he and his entire Seattle team have been laid off.

This is such a weird Industry,” Slasser says. My stellar and talented team delivered a successful new franchise in Marvel Rivals for NetEase games and were just laid off.”

NetEase says not to worry about the game.

Along with NetEase developers, BioWare developers were laid off earlier this year.

The game industry is weird.
