Another year has begun, and another piece of Spider-Man content has been released. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is now streaming on Disney Plus.
This time, the web-head is voiced by Hudson Thames, who voiced Spider-Man in the What If Disney Plus series. This series was marketed as an MCU tie-in. However, this show is different than any other Spider-Man series.
The differences include the following...
Peter gets bitten by a spider who came through a portal DR. Strange conjured to capture a monster that looked a lot like Venom.
Norman Osborn is Peter's Mentor instead of Tony Stark during his journey to becoming Spider-Man.
Harry Osborn is Spider-Man's man in the chair instead of Ned Leeds.
Peter becomes best friends with Pearl and Lonnie Lincoln. There is no Mary Jane or Ned in season one.
Dr. Connors is a female who has yet to become the Lizard.
The show is different than other series, but it is good. It gives audiences a true Spider-Man Year One experience where Peter is learning new skills, and his villain gallery is introduced in each episode. I would like to add that we get to watch the villain's origin story also come to life. Lastly, the animation style and the need to treat each scene like a comic page is a nice little touch. It brings the character of Spider-Man back to its comic book roots.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is now streaming on Disney Plus.
It has been renewed for seasons 2 & 3.
